Las Vegas Aces fans are defending A'ja Wilson's on-court confrontation of an Indiana Fever supporter by making unsubstantiated claims that the Fever fanbase is racist, according to direct interviews conducted by Matt Calkins.
The exchanges occurred around Game 2 of the WNBA playoffs, following Wilson's walk from the court into the seating area to address a fan in the second row of baseline courtside seats.
Calkins spoke with multiple Aces supporters to gauge their reaction to the incident and the league's decision not to impose a penalty on Wilson.
One female fan characterized the event as primarily about racism, stating that the incident was "more about racism and the concerns regarding the Fever fans being racist." Although she initially denied that the specific fan who confronted Wilson was racist, she maintained that race played a factor in Wilson's reaction, citing Indiana's history and prior accusations against the Fever's supporters.
