Anson Williams built a second career as a musician because his acting pay on "Happy Days" was insufficient to sustain a lifetime of earnings.
The 77-year-old actor, who played Potsie Weber, disclosed this financial motivation during a recent interview on the "Still Here Hollywood Podcast." Williams stated that the series did not offer the high salaries common in modern television.
"On 'Happy Days' we didn't have the same salaries they have today. He cited the pay as ranging from $900 to $1,200 per episode, noting that while acceptable for the era, it did not provide long-term financial security.
After discussing earnings with David Cassidy of "The Partridge Family" and Barry Williams of "The Brady Bunch," Williams recognized that off-screen musical performances generated significant additional income.
