A new report placed California 35th among all U.S. states and identified it as the least affordable state in the country.
The composite ranking puts the state in the lower half of the national field, while the separate affordability finding positions it last among all 50. The ranking Thirty-fifth is a below-median composite.
The least-affordable label is a harder number.
A state can absorb a mediocre overall score from weak showings across specific subcategories; a last-place affordability finish touches residents and employers at the same time in a way that a single subcategory miss does not.
