Plans reportedly being finalized by Chubu Electric Power to withdraw its applications to restart the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in Japan bring the company's nuclear capacity outlook back into focus.
The development has not been confirmed through a formal company statement. A withdrawal, if it proceeds, would close the regulatory path Chubu Electric had been pursuing to return Hamaoka to commercial operation.
From an operational standpoint, Hamaoka has remained offline, and restart applications were the mechanism by which Chubu Electric was working toward restoring that capacity.
Pulling those applications removes the pathway. The sourcing of this as a plan rather than a confirmed decision leaves open the question of whether the withdrawal is final or still subject to change.
