Regulated crypto derivatives are in focus for eligible Canadian traders, with Coinbase ($COIN) now offering access to both perpetual and dated futures contracts carrying leverage of up to 10x.
The launch puts Coinbase alongside other major US trading platforms that have been pushing their crypto footprint into Canada. The product structure covers two distinct contract types.
Perpetual futures carry no fixed settlement date; dated futures expire, which creates the expiry-driven order book behavior that typically concentrates open interest in the front month.
Running both in parallel is a capacity call: liquidity across a dated curve tends to thin quickly outside actively traded tenors, and how Coinbase manages that spread will shape whether the dated contracts pull meaningful volume away from the perpetual.
