Declassified documents from Spain's CNI intelligence agency show the agency alerted Madrid and Moroccan authorities one day before more than 70,000 migrants crossed into Ceuta.
The CNI had already mapped social media groups with a combined following of 180,000 where participants were coordinating plans to storm the border.
The gap between that intelligence and the scale of what followed is now in focus. The CNI's identification of those networks gave both governments a one-day lead time.
Whether that lead time produced any operational response along the border is the question the declassified record puts directly to officials. One day is enough notice to move resources.
