Tarik Skubal, the back-to-back American League Cy Young winner, is joining the Los Angeles Dodgers after Detroit agreed to trade the 29-year-old left-hander for three prospects, ESPN first reported late Saturday.
Outfielder Zyhir Hope, MLB's No. 25 prospect at 21 years old, leads the return to Detroit alongside right-handed relievers Brady Smith and River Ryan.
Skubal is 7-5 this season after returning from May arthroscopic elbow surgery and is owed the remainder of a $32 million salary.
What Detroit is taking back Hope, ranked 25th among all minor-league prospects by MLB, is the centerpiece of the return heading to the Tigers. Smith and Ryan both arrive as right-handed relievers.
