Federal prosecutors charged former Robinhood Markets (HOOD) engineers over alleged trading ahead of the brokerage's own token listings, each reportedly clearing more than $50,000 in the process.
The alleged route to those profits ran through Hyperliquid perpetual contracts. The setup, as described by prosecutors, is a textbook read on how on-chain derivatives can serve as the exit for equities-layer information.
Defendants allegedly held advance knowledge of which tokens Robinhood would list, positioned in Hyperliquid perps before the announcement went public, and captured the move when retail arrived.
That gap between inside knowledge and the open tape is what the US government is now treating as criminal conduct. For the Robinhood setup, the charges introduce regulatory noise around the crypto listings business.
