A first-year volume target of more than 100,000 units is the number in focus for Ford Motor Company (F) as the automaker prepares to launch the Fathom, a $30,000 electric pickup set for production at its Louisville, Kentucky plant in the first quarter of 2027.
That figure would make the Fathom the first non-Tesla electric vehicle to move 100,000 units for a single U.S. Customer orders are set to open in early 2027, the next confirmable milestone for the setup.
The operational build Ford is constructing the Fathom on a new Universal EV platform with a redesigned manufacturing process the company says is intended to dramatically lower costs.
CEO Jim Farley has described the effort as a potential "Model T moment." The Louisville plant anchors the supply-side story: capacity commitments and the order-book opening in early 2027 will be the two near-term throughput signals investors can actually measure.
