French school riots enter third week with over 6,100 arrested

Violent protests over school conditions in France have entered their third week, resulting in more than 6,100 arrests and injuries to 715 police officers, according to the Interior Ministry and the Associated Press.

While the demonstrations began with complaints about overcrowded classrooms and absent teachers, analysts indicate that the unrest has evolved into a broader confrontation fueled by an alliance between far-left political groups and radical Islamic organizations.

Nathalie Szerman, a researcher in radicalization and extremism at MEMRI, noted that while the protests started spontaneously in disadvantaged Paris suburbs, the violence quickly shifted focus from material school conditions to hate toward the "system." She described the situation as a "Red-Green alliance" where the far-left party La France Insoumise (LFI) rallies Islamist and pro-Palestinian groups alongside anti-system leftists.

Szerman stated that these groups are "fueling and empowering each other" by framing the government as an elite class that must be overthrown.
