Twenty-five Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia filed suit in federal court in Massachusetts on Monday, asking a judge to strike down the Trump administration's rule governing Medicaid work requirements.
The plaintiffs argue the rule sets an improperly narrow exemption standard for enrollees who are too ill to work, violating both congressional intent and administrative procedure law.
The Lawsuit and Its Plaintiffs The action was brought by 23 Democratic attorneys general alongside the Democratic governors of Kentucky and Pennsylvania — two states where the attorneys general are Republican.
The suit targets the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which did not respond to a request for comment.
