UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said Tuesday she is "minded to intervene" in the $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery by Paramount Skydance, flagging concerns over media ownership concentration and the plurality of news voices in Britain.
The intervention threat targets what would become one of the world's largest media and entertainment groups, combining assets spanning television, film, and streaming across two continents.
What the Deal Would Create The transaction would fold Warner Bros Discovery's portfolio — including CNN, HBO, and the Warner Bros film studio — into Paramount's existing stable.
In the UK, the combined entity would control Channel 5, which Paramount already owns, alongside the broader WBD presence. In the United States, the merged group would also hold CBS.
