Cruz demands contempt, prosecution and jail for Fauci after former COVID advisor invokes Fifth Amendment more than 100 times

Senate pressure on Anthony Fauci sharpened after the former White House COVID-19 advisor invoked his Fifth Amendment right more than 100 times at a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing Wednesday, declining every question put to him.

Ted Cruz, R-Texas, responded by calling for contempt charges, a perjury prosecution, and a prison sentence, labeling Fauci "the most damaging bureaucrat in the history of America." Committee Chairman Rand Paul separately announced he will seek formal contempt charges after the hearing.

What Cruz is alleging Cruz grounded his demand in Fauci's released private diaries.

He told Fox News Digital that the diaries show Fauci wrote early in the pandemic that the COVID-19 virus clearly did not come from the wet market in Wuhan, then made the opposite claim on national television.
