Britney Spears was photographed standing fully upright through the sunroof of a black Mercedes SUV on the 101 freeway near Studio City, Los Angeles, on Friday, traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour. The episode surfaces months after a March driving under the influence arrest that was resolved in May when Spears entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor wet reckless charge and accepted 12 months of probation.

The Studio City freeway incident

The Daily Mail, which published photographs of the event, reported the 44-year-old singer's vehicle originated in Thousand Oaks before traveling through the Studio City stretch of the 101. She remained standing through the sunroof for about two minutes, wearing a nude dress with her hair blowing in the wind, before the vehicle exited the freeway and pulled into a nearby gas station.

A source told The Daily Mail that Spears moved through the opening to read traffic that had slowed ahead. "She wanted to see how long they would be delayed," the source said. The same source added that Spears grew up doing this in the South and described her current disposition as happy, saying she "is in a good place."

March arrest and the plea

California Highway Patrol officers arrested Spears in March. Documents obtained by Fox News Digital show she told officers she was "an angel" and could "probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you" before the arrest. She refused an alcohol screening test at the scene. Once handcuffed, officers found a bottle of Adderall in her purse that was not prescribed to her and an empty wine glass in the cup holder between the front driver seat and passenger seat. A representative confirmed at the time that Spears voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility.

The DUI charge was dropped in May. District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said the plea offer was standard for defendants with no prior DUI history, no crash or injury, and a low blood-alcohol level. "Ms. Spears took responsibility for this misdemeanor offense, entering a guilty plea at the earliest stage and two months from the day she was arrested," Nasarenko said. The sentence included fines, time served, 12 months of probation, and a required DUI course.

What to watch

Spears is currently serving the 12-month probation period that attached to the May plea. Completion of the court-ordered DUI course remains a stated condition of her sentence.
