Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., publicly rejected President Donald Trump's accusation that she uses a fake name on Friday, responding to his call for her resignation from Congress. Trump made the remarks on Truth Social on Thursday after Fox News Digital reported that her birth name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. The report cited two people familiar with the ongoing federal investigation, including a law enforcement source.

"Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine," Omar wrote on X. She stated, "So let's make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar." Omar also directed criticism at Vice President JD Vance, asking, "Maybe you should focus on what your VP's real name is."

The dispute centers on a Justice Department court filing related to a search warrant for Omar's Washington-area home. The document identified the Minnesota Democrat as "Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar." Trump highlighted that the name in the filing matched that of Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man Omar has repeatedly denied is her brother. Trump revived the allegation that Elmi is her brother, pointing to the shared name in the official records.

Omar's office disputed the Fox News Digital reporting, insisting that "Ilhan Omar is her real name." During an MS NOW interview earlier this week, Omar was asked about a familial relationship with Elmi. She responded, "Not to my knowledge." Her spokesperson later noted the remark was sarcastic and affirmed that Omar has consistently and clearly refuted the claim.

Federal investigators are currently probing whether Omar or her father made false statements on immigration paperwork. Agents searched Omar's residence in Washington, D.C., earlier this month and seized her cellphone and passport. Her sister has also been questioned as part of the investigation. Omar has not been charged with a crime.
