Kate Gosselin stated on Thursday that her children know who she "truly" is, a response to ongoing abuse allegations from her son, Collin Gosselin. The 51-year-old former reality television star made the comments in a TikTok video celebrating the birthday of her boyfriend, Steve Neild.
In the comments section of the post, fans offered support to Gosselin. One user wrote that strength involves loving deeply enough to do what is right, even when it costs you, and noted that Gosselin had found a "happily ever after" after making sacrifices. Another comment stated that attacks from others only confirm that Gosselin stood her ground and remained true.
Gosselin replied to the fan, thanking them for the encouragement. She added, "I know who I am and my kids know who I truly am and to me, that’s all that matters." This exchange occurred shortly after Collin appeared on "The View" to discuss his sister, Hannah Gosselin.
Collin alleged on "The View" that Hannah felt compelled to state that she had not spoken to him in a year as a form of "damage control." He claimed this was because she participated in an upcoming Netflix documentary alongside Collin and their father, Jon Gosselin. Collin said, "What I do believe has happened is that Hannah’s caught in the middle. And nobody deserves that." He further claimed that their mother is either leveraging finances or Hannah’s relationship with our siblings over Hannah.
Hannah Gosselin responded in a statement, clarifying that while she maintains a relationship with her mother and other siblings, she has not lived with her father for over a year and has not spoken to Collin in close to a year. She stated she will not make further statements about "Collin's behavior growing up" or her childhood experiences with him.
Collin recently detailed his allegations in his memoir, "In the Shadow of Eight." In the book, he claimed his mother used zip ties to restrain him, struck him if he did not perform for cameras, and kept him isolated in the basement. These claims follow a 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight where Collin alleged his mother sent him to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System in Philadelphia without informing the family when he was 12 years old. At the time, Gosselin said he was diagnosed with a behavior disorder and that she could not meet his needs.
Collin left the facility and moved in with his father in December 2018 after Jon was granted custody; Hannah also lived with their father at that time. In an earlier interview with Fox News Digital, Collin said he wants an apology from his mother and for her to admit accountability for what she did. He said he wants her to acknowledge that she made every effort to bury him to protect her reputation. Gosselin has previously denied the abuse allegations made by Collin.
