L3Harris Q2 free cash flow up 37% amid $238 share price

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: LHX) reported $771 million in free cash flow for the second quarter of 2026, a 37% increase year over year, even as the stock fell approximately 23% from its year-to-date highs. The decline significantly outpaced the 9% loss recorded by the S&P 500 Aerospace & Defense Industry, prompting a reassessment of the company's valuation by Wall Street analysts. The sell-off has left the stock trading at a discount to the S&P multiple, according to Jim Cramer, while other observers point to near-term prospect concerns.

Analysts have adjusted their outlooks in response to the price drop. On October 13, Goldman Sachs analyst Noah Poponak reiterated a Buy rating but lowered the price target to $361 from $405. TD Cowen also reduced its target to $280 from $370 on October 9. These moves reflect persistent valuation concerns, as L3Harris trades at a trailing price-to-earnings multiple of 24x, a premium to the sector median of 20x.

The company’s financial flexibility is supported by its ability to return capital to shareholders. L3Harris raised its quarterly dividend to $1.25 per share from $1.20 earlier in the year, resulting in an annualized payout of $5.00 per share. At the current share price of approximately $238, this implies a dividend yield of about 2.11%. The cash flow generation provides a base for sustaining these distributions while funding operations.

Operationally, L3Harris continues to secure contracts for military aircraft, space missions, and missile propulsion technologies. On October 12, 2026, the company announced a $250 million follow-on contract from Lockheed Martin. The Communications & Spectrum segment saw revenue rise 4% to $1.943 billion in Q2 2026, with operating margins expanding to 26.9% from 24.6% a year earlier. Demand for tactical radios and secure communications remains a key profit engine for this division.

Growth is also driven by space-based missile warning and satellite systems. This segment generated $2.96 billion in revenue during Q2, up 7% year over year. The company ended the quarter with a record backlog of $42 billion, indicating a solid revenue base for future periods.

However, risks remain tied to manufacturing capacity and government budgets. Delays or supplier shortages in missile propulsion and aerospace systems could impede the conversion of backlog into revenue. Additionally, contract cancellations or shifting requirements in defense budgets may slow order conversion and weaken profitability.

Investor positioning shows mixed signals. The number of hedge funds holding LHX stock dropped to 56 in the second quarter from 59 in the first quarter. Despite this overall decrease, D. E. Shaw increased its stake by 5,204% to $306.45 million, and AQR Capital Management raised its position by 248% to $246.23 million. Shorted shares increased to 4.53 million as of September 30, with short interest standing at 2.43%.
