Mullin claims 2,210 terrorists apprehended under Trump administration

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated on the "Ruthless Podcast" that 2,210 terrorists have been apprehended under the Trump administration. The secretary provided the figure during an exclusive interview released Thursday morning, describing the arrests as part of an aggressive approach to illegal immigration. Mullin said, "Underneath President Trump, we’ve arrested, so far as my numbers walking into here, 2,210 terrorists in this country." He added that most of these individuals had claimed asylum using fake names and that the Biden administration had previously released them. Mullin claimed that under the previous administration, 97% of individuals encountered by the Department of Homeland Security were released within 27 hours. This statement comes shortly after DHS announced earlier this month that it had detained 2,150 known or suspected terrorists, a figure released ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Mullin emphasized the distinction between categories, telling the podcast co-hosts that there is a difference between a suspected terrorist and a terrorist watch list. He asserted that the individuals in question were classified as terrorists. The secretary attributed the arrests to a new administration-wide directive to shift from a defensive to an offensive posture regarding illegal immigration. Mullin explained that President Donald Trump has granted the department authority to pursue individuals aggressively rather than merely protecting against attacks. He cited cybersecurity as a parallel example of this proactive strategy. Mullin assumed the Cabinet post after serving in the House of Representatives and winning election to the Senate in 2022. President Trump nominated him to lead DHS in March, and the Senate confirmed his appointment by a vote of 54-45 on March 23. Describing his transition to the role, the Oklahoma native said he has not slept through the night in six months. Podcast co-host Josh Holmes commended Mullin for his performance with just over a month remaining until the November midterm elections. Holmes noted that immigration remains a polarizing political issue and criticized the previous administration for prioritizing lower-hanging fruit in deportations rather than rapid removals.
