NIH vaccine injury center to cover post-infection symptoms

Two leaders at the National Institutes of Health stated that a new center for vaccine injuries will also focus on long-term symptoms following infections. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other top federal health officials announced the center at a private event earlier this month, framing it as a response to vaccine injury concerns. Days later, the NIH leaders clarified that the facility's mandate extends to post-infection complications, a scope relevant to those experiencing long-term symptoms after Covid. A senior NIH official, who asked not to be identified to speak freely, noted that for people with long-Covid symptoms, it can be hard to determine whether the condition began because of a vaccine or an infection. The official explained that the immunological response mechanism is similar in both cases, which means the treatment is similar.
