Stepmother alleges suspect drained 401(k) before Great Wolf Lodge murders
April Thetga, the stepmother of Metallica Harrison, alleges that the 27-year-old suspect drained her husband's 401(k) account prior to a three-week stay at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. Thetga told Fox News Digital that the financial move, combined with kitchen knives brought from the family's home in Towanda, indicates the stabbing deaths of Charles "Chaz" Harrison and their 3-year-old son were deliberately orchestrated.
Harrison faces murder charges for the deaths inside a hotel room at the resort. A probable cause affidavit states that officers found knives, blood, and medications in the room where the incident occurred. Police initially responded to a 911 call placed by Harrison, who was described as suicidal. It remains unclear whether Chaz Harrison was aware of the potential depletion of his retirement funds.
The victims' extended vacation raised questions about how the couple could afford the trip, which Thetga noted can cost between hundreds of dollars and up to $2,000 per booking. Chaz worked for a cabinetry company in Sayre, while Metallica Harrison held an undisclosed position in healthcare. Thetga stated that the family lived in a modest home in Towanda.
Thetga expressed disbelief at the events, describing the situation as horrifying due to its apparent preplanning. She described herself as broken and angry over the loss of her grandson, stating that she wants to hear him call her again and hold him. "She just destroyed our whole lives," Thetga said.
Harrison is currently detained in a Monroe County jail cell without bond while awaiting her next hearing. Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the murders is active and ongoing.
