The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency announced that nine major banks maintained policies between 2020 and September 2025 that restricted access to financial services for specific customers and businesses. Separately, the September consumer price index, released at 8:30 am ET, rose 0.6% compared with a 0.4% gain in the prior month, matching expectations in a Bloomberg survey.

Corporate results drove significant stock price swings. Bank of America (BAC) shares fell 6.2% after the bank posted lower third-quarter earnings and higher revenue, missing consensus estimates on both metrics. Fastenal (FAST) stock dropped 6.7% despite reporting higher third-quarter earnings and net sales. ASML (ASML) shares declined 1.6% following the release of its fiscal third-quarter financial results, which showed higher net income and sales.

On the positive side, BlackRock (BLK) shares rose 2.7% after the company reported third-quarter adjusted earnings and revenue that surpassed analysts' consensus. Accenture (ACN) stock climbed 2.7% after the firm and Workday (WDAY) announced a joint forward deployed engineering program launched late Tuesday to help organizations reinvent workflows using artificial intelligence. Alibaba (BABA) shares gained 1.1% after Himax Technologies (HIMX) stated it incorporated its WiseEye ultralow power AI processor, the HX6538, into the latest Qwen Glasses N1 series.

Oil prices increased, with front-month North Sea Brent crude up 0.3% at $106.03 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude rising 1.6% to $95.66 per barrel. In global markets, Japanese and Hong Kong indices finished marginally lower, while China's Shanghai Composite ended the day down 0.9%. European indices showed mixed performance, with the UK's FTSE 100 up 0.1% and Germany's DAX index up 0.7% in early afternoon trading.

Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman and Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin were scheduled to speak on Wednesday.
