Virtuals Protocol launched a new suite of artificial intelligence agent creation and ownership tools on Solana on Aug. 24. The platform, which has operated an AI agent launchpad on the network since early 2025, enabled investors to buy tokens associated with agents in its ecosystem and expanded the capabilities those agents can perform.
The relaunch allows agents to operate on an application layer called EconomyOS. This system provides each agent with a registered on-chain identity and a wallet that the agent controls. Through this infrastructure, agents can buy services, hire other agents, pay computing bills, and sell work to users or other agents. The system also provisions for a tax on trades of the agent's own token and supports interactions with real-world contexts, such as agent-driven robotics systems.
Solana's low chain fees and quick transaction times support this agentic commerce model. These traits allow agents to execute work without waiting for transactions to clear or holding large token balances for fees. When an agent earns money, standard configuration uses a portion of the cash to buy back and burn its own token. However, this value does not accrue directly to Solana holders.
Solana benefits from two other mechanisms. The network incurs a transaction fee on every agent transaction. Additionally, the Virtuals protocol converts 1% of the trading fees it collects into buying Solana, a program announced in January 2025. While the reserve buys the coin, it pays it back out to reward agents and their creators. The burn mechanism is the primary path that shrinks supply, though agents transacting at vast scales could remove a meaningful amount of the coin from circulation.
On Aug. 22, Solana opened on-chain voting on two Solana Improvement Documents, SIMD 0553 and SIMD 0550. These proposals would charge for transactions based on the resources they consume and burn those fees in full. The change would lift daily burns from roughly 648 Solana coins toward 7,500 to 9,000 as activity ramps up.
The AI agent segment is still emerging. The new Virtuals platform adds a tailwind by generating more activity on the chain. The governance vote on the fee-burning proposals remains a significant variable for the network's economic dynamics.
