Vision Capital Fund initiated a new position in Datadog, Inc. (NASDAQ: DDOG) during the third quarter of 2026, citing secular growth in cloud observability and custom AI silicon. The investment management firm disclosed this move in its third-quarter 2026 investor letter, noting that Datadog serves as a leading AI-powered observability and security SaaS platform for cloud applications.

The fund reported a net return of +14.4% (unaudited) for the third quarter of 2026, significantly outperforming the S&P 500's +2.3% return for the same period. Since its inception on October 1, 2024, Vision Capital Fund has delivered a cumulative gross return of +28.9% and a net return of +21.4%, compared to a +36.1% return for the S&P 500. On an annualized basis, the fund generated a +13.6% gross return and a +10.2% net return, while the S&P 500 returned +16.7%.

In the letter, Vision Capital Fund explained that as cloud infrastructure continues to grow, software complexity increases, creating a demand for more monitoring, observability, and autonomy. The fund stated that Datadog's total addressable market has expanded as the company broadens its product coverage. Datadog's platform combines metrics, traces, and logs into a single end-to-end system and has expanded horizontally to include 26 products. Customers typically begin with these core pillars and add more products over time, which leads to higher spending and increased retention.

According to the fund, Datadog outspends its peers in research and development by two times, ships minimum viable products quickly, and integrates acquisitions while building traction. Data from Insider Monkey shows that Datadog closed at $273.80 on October 8, 2026, with a market capitalization of $98.31 billion. The stock posted a year-to-date gain of 105.89% and traded within a 52-week range of $98.01 to $292.72. Datadog reported $3.97 billion in trailing twelve-month revenue.

Insider Monkey data indicates that 92 hedge fund portfolios held Datadog at the end of the second quarter of 2026, an increase from 80 portfolios in the previous quarter. While acknowledging the company's potential, Insider Monkey noted that certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk compared to Datadog.
