Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW) disclosed a license-to-manufacture agreement with Dixon Electro Appliances Private Ltd. (Dixon) for designated products in its WTM 4000 family in India. The deal, filed as an 8-K, allows Dixon to manufacture and sell approved units to select Indian telecommunications operators while Aviat retains intellectual property rights and continues to provide software and services.
The partnership is designed to address logistical hurdles in the region, specifically international shipping complexity and import delays. By shifting production locally, Aviat aims to offer "Made in India" radios supported by a local supply chain. This operational shift is intended to strengthen responsiveness for Indian customers who rely on microwave infrastructure.
Aviat already maintains a significant footprint in the subcontinent, including Research and Development, Repair and Return, and logistics and deployment services. The new agreement expands this presence by adding a manufacturing component that avoids the constraints of traditional contract manufacturing models. Pete Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aviat Networks, stated that India represents one of the largest growth opportunities in the global microwave market. He noted that this model allows the company to focus resources on innovation, software, services, and customer relationships while serving the growing market.
The company estimates Indian microwave market demand at approximately 250,000 links over the next four years. Management views the license-to-manufacture structure as a scalable platform to pursue this specific demand. The arrangement is expected to create a higher-quality, more capital-efficient growth profile for Aviat shareholders.
Aviat Networks is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and has sold more than one million systems into 170 countries worldwide. Its customers include communications service providers and private network operators from state and local government, utility, federal government, and defense organizations.
