The move adds two new instruments to an exchange that already handles significant volume in major digital assets. Contract specifications and regulatory status
The new products are subject to regulatory review before they go live. Bitcoin Cash futures will represent 250 BCH per standard contract, while the Micro version covers 25 BCH. Uniswap futures will cover 10,000 UNI, with Micro contracts representing 1,000 UNI. CME Group stated that client demand drove the decision to introduce these specific assets. Giovanni Vicioso, the global head of cryptocurrency products at CME, noted that participants require broader regulated tools to navigate price risk in maturing crypto markets.
Volume context and market expansion
CME's cryptocurrency futures and options recorded an average daily volume of 279,800 contracts in the first half of 2026. This activity represented $8.3 billion in notional value. Average open interest stood at 264,600 contracts, worth $15.4 billion in notional value. The exchange added futures for Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche, and Sui earlier this year. Those additions generated more than $1 billion in total notional value year to date. CME now offers futures on a growing list of assets, including Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, and Sui. The expansion reflects a shift toward regulated channels for digital asset trading. Coinbase recently filed for approval to offer perpetual futures on major U.S. stocks, signaling broader institutional interest in derivatives structures. The next milestone for CME's new listings is the regulatory clearance required before the October 19 launch date.
