The No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, No. 6, No. 7, No. 13, No. 16 and No. 18 ranked teams in the AP Top-25 poll lost on Saturday, marking the first time five of the top eight teams fell on the same day since 1989. Unranked Auburn defeated top-ranked Georgia 28-24 in a game that ended with a 34-yard field goal by Alex McPherson with 58 seconds remaining. BYU defeated No. 2 Notre Dame 28-24 in Provo, with the game decided by a deflected pass from CJ Carr in the end zone on the final play. The Big 12 Conference later stated that its review determined time remained on the clock when the ball hit the ground, meaning Notre Dame should have been allowed one final play from the BYU 8-yard line. The conference announced it will conduct a complete review of its end-of-game officiating process before next week's games.

No. 3 Miami defeated Florida State in an overtime thriller that included a holding call erasing a Hail-Mary touchdown pass for the Seminoles. Tennessee defeated Alabama, with running back DeSean Bishop rushing for 159 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Keelon Russell threw two interceptions for the Crimson Tide. This result gave Alabama its first back-to-back regular-season losses in nearly two decades.

Ohio State ended Indiana's 22-game winning streak in a chaotic fourth quarter, though the Buckeyes lost starting quarterback Julian Sayin in the process. In other results, Ole Miss held No. 13 Missouri to three points, and LSU defeated Mississippi State, which played without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and starting running back Fluff Bothwell.

The upsets leave no unbeaten teams in the SEC, one in the Big Ten (UCLA), one in the ACC, and three in the Big 12 after Utah defeated Colorado. The College Football Playoff is scheduled to expand to 24 teams next season.
