Morgan Stanley reported a shortfall in Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities (FICC) trading and sales revenue for the second quarter, even as the firm delivered results that generally exceeded analyst expectations across other key metrics.
The bank's FICC trading and sales revenue came in below the estimated figure. This miss stood out against a broader trend of overperformance in the quarter's financial summary. Morgan Stanley reported earnings per share and total revenue that both surpassed their respective estimates.
Equity trading and sales revenue exceeded forecasts. Investment banking revenue also beat expectations. Within that segment, debt underwriting revenue outperformed the estimate, though equity underwriting revenue lagged behind the projected figure.
Wealth management revenue was slightly below expectations. Net interest income significantly outperformed forecasts. Total deposits rose well above the projected level.
On the cost side, provision for credit losses increased from the estimate. Non-interest expenses totaled slightly higher than the estimated amount, driven by non-compensation expenses that exceeded the forecast, while compensation expenses came in lower than the estimated figure.
