Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers accused Democratic opponent Abdul El-Sayed of maintaining a "pattern of deception" during a Monday town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity. Rogers labeled El-Sayed a "manufactured candidate," claiming the Democrat has misrepresented his political positions to Michigan voters.
Rogers described El-Sayed as the "most extreme candidate," citing calls to defund the police and release criminals from prison as part of his rival's agenda. He specifically criticized the Green New Deal, stating that for Michigan, the policy is "a killer."
The Republican highlighted his campaign's ground operation, noting that volunteers have knocked on nearly 6 million doors across the state. Rogers said these interactions have yielded voter commitments to reject the state becoming a DSA state and to prevent what he described as an undesirable political outcome. He added that his campaign is seeing support from voters who traditionally back Democrats.
During the Q&A segment, a Jewish woman told Rogers she sometimes feels afraid to display her Jewish identity in public. Rogers responded by citing similar accounts from Jewish students at the University of Michigan, who said they concealed religious symbols due to harassment. He linked these concerns to his broader platform, which includes making it easier for young adults to buy homes and bringing more defense industry work to the state.
Rogers also advocated for restoring shop classes in Michigan high schools, arguing that expanding skilled-trade education would provide students with more pathways to well-paying careers. He concluded by warning that Michigan "cannot afford" El-Sayed's ideology, stating, "We certainly can't risk his ideology."
El-Sayed's campaign could not immediately be reached by Fox News Digital for comment.
