Sarkisian vows to evaluate all aspects after Manning's rough outing

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian stated that every aspect of the team's performance is under review following a 30-27 loss to Florida, explicitly including the possibility of changing the starting quarterback. The Longhorns fell to the Gators in a game that ended a run of 22 consecutive victories over unranked opponents at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. The defeat extended Texas' losing streak to two games, dropping the team from the No. 1 spot in the AP poll after a previous loss to Oklahoma.

Arch Manning, the Texas quarterback, finished the contest with 173 passing yards and one touchdown pass. Florida defensive players sacked Manning five times during the game. A late-game sack resulted in a fumble that sealed the upset victory for Florida. Texas completed only 50 offensive snaps, the lowest total recorded in Sarkisian's tenure as head coach. The team's offensive production was limited to a strong first quarter, after which Sarkisian said the group "bled out." He described the overall performance as poor, noting that no player on offense was perfect but emphasizing that Arch Manning was not the sole issue.

Sarkisian acknowledged his own role in the team's struggles by noting that he calls the offensive plays. He stated that playcalling is part of the broader evaluation process. He expressed frustration at having to repeat this message, clarifying that the review covers the entire offensive perspective, with specific attention to how plays are called. He added that he is extremely disappointed with how the team played, describing the effort as inadequate outside of the opening frame.

The loss to Florida marks the second consecutive defeat for Texas against an unranked opponent from the SEC. According to ESPN Research, Texas is only the third team since 1936 to reach No. 1 in the AP poll before losing consecutive games to unranked opponents. The previous setback came against Oklahoma, which cost Texas its top national ranking. That Oklahoma team had previously finished a season with a 4-8 record, having lost to Florida in October 2025. The current Florida squad entered this week's matchup as an underdog after dropping its first two games of the season following a start that included an upset of then-No. 4 Ole Miss.

Texas will host Ole Miss in Austin next Saturday.
