Former NFL running back Todd Gurley accompanied President Donald Trump to Dalton, Georgia, on Friday for a campaign rally held ahead of the November midterm elections. The former Georgia Bulldogs star traveled aboard Air Force One to the state, a move confirmed by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Gurley stepped off the plane alongside the president at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, where the two were photographed together. The rally marks the president's third visit to Georgia this year. Republican Senate candidate Mike Collins and gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson joined Trump on stage as the party seeks to energize voters before Election Day on Nov. 3.
Gurley's political visibility follows a pattern involving other prominent figures from the University of Georgia football program. Current Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton appeared with Trump at a February rally in Rome, Georgia, where the president acknowledged him on stage. Additionally, former Georgia star Herschel Walker received Trump's backing during his unsuccessful 2022 Senate campaign against Democrat Raphael Warnock. Walker subsequently served as the U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
Gurley established his professional reputation as a three-time Pro Bowler and the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 with the Los Angeles Rams. He was selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft after rushing for 3,285 yards and 36 touchdowns over three seasons at Georgia.
Clay Travis responded to Gurley's participation on X, stating that many professional athletes are no longer silent regarding their support for the Republican Party.
